Advanced computers used to create a type of organsim to alter human organ growth, are there vicitms of crime?
A doctor has applied for a patent on new technology involving the use of advanced computers to create a new type of organism. One of the goals of his research is to genetically alter these organisms for use in human organ growth and transplant. The doctor says that if he is not granted a patent, he intends to continue his research, either in the United States or oversees. Are there victims of this type of crime? Should developers of new technology be required to have their innovations screened before they are developed?
There would be a crime if he experimented on animals or humans without authorization from the appropriate oversight committees.
Developers are rightly screened prior to testing new technologies, since there are often unforeseen side-effects. A good example is the first attempt at gene therapy in a human, where a virus was used to replace a faulty gene in a patient. The replacement gene worked fine, but the virus (inactivated – it could deliver the replacement gene to the patient’s cells, but was unable to multiply) caused an immune reaction that ended up killing the test subject. With more comprehensive technology, the researchers might have been able to sort out the problem ahead of time.
As far as I know, granting a patent to a researcher only allows him or her exclusive rights to the technology. Conducting research without a patent isn’t a crime (especially since a lot of research is needed to develop a technology to the point where it is patentable).
Are refurbished computers reliable?
I am in the market for a new laptop computer. I keep seeing deals on Tiger direct and Dell Outlet for refurbished laptops. Are they dependable? Should I avoid these types of deals on refurbished computers. Honestly it makes me nervous but I am not expert. If I can save a dollar that would be great but I do not want to have to be purchasing another computer in 2 years again.
If you don’t want to have to purchase another computer in 2 years then do not buy a laptop! Laptops are difficult and costly to repair and upgrade. It would be difficult to say whether the computer is reliable or not, I would trust a refurbished desktop computer over a refurbished laptop.

I bought a used laptop preloaded with all the software but when I open it it says I need a serial number?
I bought a used laptop off of eBay and when I go to open the programs (final cut express) it says I need to enter a serial number. I obviously don’t have the original packaging to refer to so what do I do? Contacted the prev. owner – never got back to me. I tried looking for a serial # online but none worked. Suggestions?
If the seller stated that it came with the software, and he is refusing to reply with the key, you need to contact ebay about it. That will find a way to settle it.
Can I trust a factory refurbished laptop?
I am a college student and I am looking to buy a new laptop. I found a 550 dollar one that is a new HP. But, so many more of them are cheaper and refurbished? What exactly does this mean and can I trust in a laptop that is refurbished.
If HP refurbished the computer, then don’t worry. The company refurbishes any parts that looked too worn and will replaced them, and test the computer to see if it runs well. The tests are just as rigorous as the tests new computers go through. my dad has a refurbished dell computer that he bought a couple of years ago and it still works great!
How to get Mac laptop on sale?
Is there going to be some kinda deal on black friday?
Sales are meant to boast revenue when business is slow.
Business is never slow for Apple, so they don’t have sales. A refurbished Macbook or Macbook Pro is the best chance you have of getting a reduced price on a laptop from Apple.
What cheap laptop should I get that can run World of Warcraft good?
I’m looking for a somewhat cheap laptop that can run World of Warcraft good!
Thanks
One person used dollars, so I shall do the same.
I bought a laptop for $1400 a while back, it runs WoW smoothly and as good as my PC does. It’s a Sony Viao (spelling?) and is an awesome laptop for all occasions.
However if you wish to have something solid that runs wow, build your own pc through components and various component websites.
Good luck.
Notebook computers with dual monitor support?
I’m getting my tax refund in a couple weeks (about $950) and plan to use it to buy a notebook computer.
Does anyone make one that has dual monitor support?
I’d like to plug in an external LCD monitor and use it as a secondary desktop.
Most any recent model laptop has the feature you are asking about; you just plug in the external monitor, then extend the display to that monitor.
