Is there a place or website that buys used computers?

I believe my computer either has a virus, is getting older, or just need some fixing. I was wondering if there is a such place or website that exist that buys used computers and then fix them for themselves or to others??

Yeah ebay is the best place

reasons why refurbished computers are better than new computers?

They are definitely not better.

Buying a refurbished computer is a lot like buying a reconditioned rental car. You never know how much people beat the snot out of it. It may run, but who knows how long it will last? Was/is it overclocked? Run at a high voltage?

Unless you must absolutely stick to lower cost refurbished systems, it’s better to buy new, knowing you won’t have to spend money out of pocket to fix or replace something it if breaks. Unless, of course, the refurbished machine comes with some sort of guarantee!

Does Dell offer student laptop discounts on Alienware products?

My dad was telling me that he wants me to get a Dell for the student discount they give on the laptops (which is like 15% or something). I was looking at getting the m17x. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, They do offer a percent off but its only for College Students, Junior/Senior Year of HS Students that are already planning to attend the specific college that works with dells program, or you have to work for a school such as faculty and staff. I’ll send you a link to the Alienware/Dell School Program. If you have any other questions feel free to contact me. Good Luck.

Dell Student Website: http://delllounge.com/delluniversity/FindMySchool.aspx

You have to find your school and answer the questions then it will take you to the Dell website and show the discounts go down to laptops and select gaming. Then t should appear about $100-$300 off.

When connecting a laptop used wirelessly to an Ethernet cable, steps to take?

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that’s never been connected via the Ethernet cable to my router/DSL. It’s only been used wirelessly. If I wish to connect it for any reason temporarily (let’s say to access the router), do I need to switch off the wireless antenna first?

no, they should be completely interchangeable.. in fact, you can probably connect both at once, if you’d like. Every device i’ve ever used could, and i can’t see why your laptop couldn’t.

question about a listing for a refurbished laptop, help please?

I found a refurbished pink dell laptop on ebay for about $230, in the listing it says "WiFi WINDOWS XP PRO ( NO DISKS INCLUDED.) should I be worried about the disk not being included?

-if you ever have to reformat your comp or it crashes it will be a huge problem better to have the disks . on the other hand you can buy the disks if you need to and the deal is just too good to pass up. i wouuld recomend you get the disks though find another one if you can

My dad bought an old laptop from yard sale for $5.00 but likes to use internet card. Can he use XP?

right now, it’s using windows 98, 4 gig hard drive, 96 megs of RAM. He bought it for $5.00. It is pentium 2 processor. He would need to upgrade 98 to 2000 or XP. Can he be able to do that? Or would it be better for him to buy a new laptop computer?

well he could only really update to 2000 me at the most because of the low ram but i have seen desktops running xp with 128 megabyte of ram but it was slow but i am not sure with 4 gigabytes of hard drive left ir could be possible but it would be very slow…so he might be able to but he would need to drastically remove a good bit of stuff.
well it says you can here are the requirements for xp pro.

Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)
At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
Keyboard and a Microsoft Mouse or some other compatible pointing device
Video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (800 x 600)or higher resolution
Sound card
Speakers or headphones

For XP home Edition
Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)
At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
Keyboard and a Microsoft Mouse or some other compatible pointing device
Video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution
Sound card
Speakers or headphones

so i was wrong but he can definantly use xp you can surf the internet for the appropiate software if you do not already have it but do not i repeat do not buy a bootlegged copy because it will not work

now if he wants to update to vista basic this is what he would need:
1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
512 MB of ram
20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory
DVD-ROM drive
Audio Output
Internet access (fees may apply)
so he would need another ram card and he would have to delete a lot of stuff

Now for Melinium Edition (ME)
Processor – Pentium or equivalent, 150 MHz or higher
Memory – 32 mb of RAM
Hard Drive Space – 320 mb to 420 mb depending on configuration selected
Display – VGA or higher
Peripheral – Microsoft Mouse or compatible
Modem – Minimum supported 28.8 or higher baud rate.

so without a shout of a doubt he would be able to use ME but i myself with experiance do not like it
For 200 just plain out he would need
133 MHz or more Pentium microprocessor (or equivalent).

Windows 2000 Professional supports up to two processors on a single computer.
64 megabytes (MB) of RAM recommended minimum. 32 MB of RAM is the minimum supported. 4 gigabytes (GB) of RAM is the maximum.
A 2 GB hard disk that has 650 MB of free space. If you are installing over a network, more free hard disk space is required.
VGA or higher-resolution monitor.
Keyboard.
Mouse or compatible pointing device (optional).

I hope this helped in some way
email me or leave comment if this worked
*please give me best answer if this helped in any way*

Does India restrict number of notebook computers a tourist can bring in?

I want to bring two notebook computers into India as a tourist and then mail them to friends. Can I do that without paying additional customs or tariffs?

btw, about how much is it to mail two notebook computers within India (not from outside of India)?

The import duty for bringing laptops into India is zero. However you are limited to 1 laptop per passenger.

Regarding how much it is to mail the laptops within India is a very dicey question to answer because different carriers will charge different amounts

I suggest you try BLUE DART once you come to India.

Hope this helps

2 questions regarding laptop computers on airlines?

I have a few questions regarding laptop computers on airlines. First, do they have a power source available (can you plug it in or must you rely solely on your battery)? Second, is there some sort of Internet access available in flight? I haven’t ridden a plane since before the computer age!

Some airlines have a few power sources on some of their larger aircraft (that are generally used for longer flights) but generally there isn’t on most airplanes. As far as internet access, there isn’t on the plane and actually they will tell you to disable the wireless feature on your laptop before you take off. Most airport terminals do have wireless access though, and a few power outlets in the terminal, but often you have to pay a fee (it’s not free wireless in a lot of airports it’s like $5-8 usually for up to 24 hours of access, but chances are you’ll only have time to be using it for a few minutes so it’s not worth paying for).
