Can the windows 7 CD that dell gives you when you buy laptop be used to install windows on a different pc?

I have dell’s inspiron desktop with windows vista. I recently bought dell studio xps 16 laptop with windows 7. It comes with the windows 7 OS CD for re-installing the OS if needed.
I was wondering if I can install windows 7 on my desktop too? I have the product key printed beneath my laptop.

No, it would not activate any way. One pc per key.

Selling my barely used laptop, how do I reset it to original, out-of-the-box settings?

I bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop last October and have barely used it 7 or 8 times.

I am selling it on eBay. There is not much I really even loaded on it, may a cd or two. I would like to reset it so that the buyer has a fresh Windows 7 on it.

How do I do this?

At boot up hold the F 8 key down and then select the revert to factory settings then follow the screen prompts.

PM me on details of your sale please

Are there lots of risks to buying a refurbished Laptop?

I am looking for a laptop with wireless capabilities. Other than that I only need it for basic programs such as Email, MS Word, Excel and so on. When they say “refurbished” exactly how much of a risk do you run? I see some refurbished notebooks for $599 on Tigerdirect.com but then I see the commercials for HP notebooks that start at $499. As you can see I’m not the most computer savvy person. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

I understand your dilemma. I have bought computer desktop’s from Tigerdirect (refurbs and open-box). Both came with warranties and worked fine. I have bought PDA’s as well. It depends on what your looking to do with it. You don’t seem to need much. Sometimes a refurb (or open box) can be better than a brand new one. Compare the specs and warranties.
Best buy gives you a break down of what all the terms mean.
Hope this helps.

How cheap can you get a windows xp laptop at a liquidation sale?

That depends on whose sale it is. CompUSA is currently liquidating, but as of last week, they were only offering 15% off their original prices – it was barely worth looking at.

Which laptop computers have a keyboard with number pad?

I need to buy a laptop computer for its portability, but don’t like using a number pad USB attachment. Which laptop computers come with keyboards that have a number pad built in?

The HP DV9000 Series have a number pad on the side. It’s a 17" laptop.

Avertec and Toshiba both make a 17" Laptop as well with said number pad.

I was wondering what peoplethought about the mini laptop computers. I want to buy like the cheapest one.?

I have a desktop for doing bigger things i like to do but wanted a laptop just for email checking and playing a few games but didnt know if people liked them or not. Thought maybe someone could give me a little input and maybe tell me a good place to buy one at. I dont understand all that GB and GHZ so tell me what is the highest number I need to look for when shopping for one. Thank you

Many of the netbooks on the market today offer very similar specs (unless you go to the higher-end models). You should look for a model that has a keyboard that is big enough to type on comfortably. For other specs, you should look for 1.5-2 GHz processor, 1GB memory, and at least 60GB hard drive. Check out the HP Mini 1000 and the Asus Eee PC 1000HE. They should run you about $360-380.
