Do those companies have to use new parts when they build and sell you a computer, or can they use refurbished parts?

OR, do they just find a cheap factory in China to manufacture these parts?

They don’t use refurbished parts, but they use cheap parts… like cases with very flimsy metal and lots of plastic unless you select better ones for a higher price. Of course it’s all made in China- they are BUDGET brands for gaming systems, that’s their claim to fame.

The overwhelming majority of bad reviews seem to be from people who bought their systems on other sites like Newegg, Walmart, Amazon etc, not people who ordered computers configured directly on their sites. The big difference is that systems bought from a 3rd party have been shipped at least twice- from Cyberpower/Ibuypower to the merchant, then from the merchant to you.

That means twice the amount of time in transit, which is twice as many opportunities for boxes to be dropped, tossed or otherwise mishandled. We’ve all seen the horrors of delivery men gone wild lately on the news. And since those companies aren’t using particularly heavy-duty cases and use the cheapest shipping methods available… well, you get the picture. It’s easy for components like cards/drives to bumped/knocked out of socket from rough handling in transit, especially with cases that don’t even use screws, but just have plastic clamps & twist levers to secure things.

Our office has purchased two computers from Cyberpower over the past 4 years, both have been rock-solid. We didn’t need them for gaming, we just needed fast machines at a reasonable price, so I chose $50-$75 graphics cards. Of course I selected good quality power supplies and motherboards to begin with, not the cheapest ones. That’s the other issue people buying from Newegg, Amazon or Walmart may run into… those "stock" units don’t have the highest-quality components. Going cheap on power supplies is a recipe for trouble.

The first system we bought came with a slot cover that wasn’t very tight and popped out easily, it happened a couple of times when I was moving the system . But there wasn’t anything underneath it, so no big deal… lesson learned about opting for a better case. I pushed it back into place and all is well. But that’s been our only issue with either unit- so I consider Cyberpower PC a good value overall.

Ibuypower seems to be undercutting Cyberpower PC on price these days, but I’ve never owned one of their units and can’t attest to the quality. I’ve heard that both companies are owned by the same people now.

Might need a Mexican credit card? and doubt you’ll get an English operating system

You have to watch out for Craigslist, there are a lot of scammers out there. Always deal in person (meet at a coffee shop or shopping mall), and test the machine out for 1/2 hour or so before buying anything. Bring a friend along, one who knows a bit about laptops… (and it is safer to have someone with you)

It may be a stolen machine, ask the seller where they got (bought) it from, and if possible, ask for the serial number. Crooks will hesitate to give that information out. If the seller says they bought it at a store, ask them to bring the original sales receipt.

Finally, ask for photo ID from the seller, so you can be sure of who they are, and write down their home address (like from a drivers license). That way, if the laptop turns out to be stolen, you can tell the cops who it was. You can also verify their phone number/address through a reverse phone lookup on the Internet.

Bottom line, if it is an honest seller, you should be able to identify them easily, and identify the laptop (serial, where bought, etc…)

Not bad for the price! Processor could be better, but that’s not the only thing that affects speed. RAM=okay oh and to the person who said it should come with an operating system for the price, um that’s stupid, it’s obviously got an os preinstalled, i highly doubt HP would sell a computer without an os. And i also highly doubt the seller deleted every system file.
Hard drive=200gb, that’s great for the average user, good for a laptop. You could always replace it if you want more space or replace it with an ssd if u really care about speed.

Id say go for it, if you’re just gonna use it like an everyday laptop.
